ACROPOLIS OF KAZARMA

Argolida, Greece

Offered exclusively at our Greece Retreat

The Acropolis (citadel) of Kazarma (85 X 75 m.) is located on the 15th km on the Nafplio-Epidaurus National Road, and is built on a hill 28 m. high. The walls (2.50 m. wide and 5.20 m. high today) are constructed with the polygonal system and are estimated to date in the 4th century B.C. The citadel has four circular towers. The main entrance is to the west and there is a small gate to the east. It was reconstructed in the Byzantine years. The citadel of Kazarma is a relatively small fortification on the ancient road Argos-Nafplio-Epidaurus. It was probably built by the citizens of Argos on the borders of the ancient city-states Argos and Epidaurus. Tourists may enter the Acropolis of Kazarma from the eastern side of the hill, where there is a road. No excavations or any works of landscaping have been done.
